Understanding Outdoor Storage Shed Kits

If you're either lacking in the building experience or lacking in time to build your own shed, you may find that purchasing a shed kit will be more manageable, yet still save you a lot of money over the purchase of a prefab shed. There are many outdoor storage shed kits being sold in hardware stores today, with a wide variety of construction difficulty levels available.

Some of the easier outdoor storage shed kits require very little time or skill to assemble. In fact, you will find that they come with the windows already assembled in the casings. The doors will also be already assembled, and in many cases pre-hung. Such items as the door locksets and the mounting screw holes will already be drilled out.

Depending on the size of your shed, the walls may also be assembled. They may be framed and have siding on them already. If they are too large to have these features already assembled, they may come in sections you have to assemble. The floors of most shed kits will come precut, but unattached. This allows you to make sure the floors are level.

It should be noted that if your outdoor storage shed kit comes with gable walls the roof peak section will be separately framed for attachment to the gable wall at the time the walls are lifted. You may find that some of the other shed kit roof systems are designed with rafters instead of trusses. This means that the roofs cannot be pre-assembled. The easiest of these roof kits to put together are of course the ones that are not pre-cut.

Don't let all of this information on storage shed kits overwhelm you. The important thing to remember is that the kits come with the parts you need and instructions on how to easily assemble your storage shed. If you are not particularly gifted or experienced in construction, it will take some effort to assemble your shed kit, but it should be doable. If you're experienced in construction, it'll be a breeze putting your new storage shed kit together.
