Understanding Your Porch Railings Options

The vinyl railing is perhaps the easiest of all porch railings to install, particularly if you buy a vinyl porch railing kit with all of the necessary materials included. Porch railing kits can actually be purchased for your porch railing job whether you are looking to remodel existing porch railings or looking for railings to install with your new porch. You can expect your typical porch railing kit to include high-quality PVC vinyl, strong-walled turned balusters, and all of the necessary rails.

One of the advantages of the vinyl porch railing kit is that you never have to worry about such maintenance concerns as re-painting. With a wooden railing you generally have to either buy pre-painted wood railing or do the staining and painting yourself. Then every couple of years you have to sand, stain, and paint the wood again.

The vinyl porch railing kit balusters have tapered edges that make them very easy to install. Typically, the railing will be broken down into 6-foot or smaller pieces that you put together. There will generally be about 14 balusters included.

You have a lot of design options for your porch railing to consider. You can get colonial railing with spindle rails, orleans belly railing with curved rails, decorative twisted balusters, and square picket railing. These options can help you turn your porch into a veranda.

Be sure to find out if any special building permits will be needed to make changes to your porch. In most places such minor changes as railing do not require a permit.
