Making the Most of Garage Storage Space

Nearly all of us find all of the nooks and crannies in our garages to stuff items into our garages that we need to store away for later. It may seem like you've completely run out of garage storage space. But with a little work you can optimize your usage of your garage to make your garage into a mega storage area.

Building some shelves into your garage or purchasing a shelving kit for your garage can make a huge difference in the efficiency of your garage space usage. Often one of the walls of your garage will have enough space for you to put up these shelves to increase your space usage without interfering with the space for parking your car or walking around in your garage.

Your garage floor space is very limited because the garage is mostly built around the idea of vehicle storage. But taking advantage of the wall space, and in some cases even the ceiling space, gives you a marked increase in garage storage space. You need all of the storage space you can get when you have to store away a variety of items such as bicycles, children's toys, sports equipment, garden tools, lawn mower, rotatiler, and shovels. And, if you're a person who enjoys do it yourself projects, your garage must also double as a workshop filled with such tools as saws and hammers.

You may be wondering what you can possible do to store things with your garage ceiling space. One thing you can do is put up hanging bicycle racks. But it is also possible to build overhead storage bins and areas. Some people even hang a pull-down stepladder from their upper storage areas for quick and easy access to the garage ceiling storage. This creates kind of an upper loft without building an upper loft. But if you want to go all the way with your garage storage space, you may want to consider actually building an upper loft. At the least you may want to consider using your garage attic as an extended storage area.
