You have a lot of options for garage doors today. You shouldn't have any trouble finding a garage door that adds to the beauty and security of your home. You can still purchase the old wooden garage doors if you wish.

These wooden doors take a lot more maintenance because they are more susceptible to the weather, but they look nice and do a much better job of insulating your garage than most of the garage doors of today.

Even if you stain and paint your garage door, you will have to repeat this process every couple of years. Over time your wooden garage door will still rot out and gain weight from water retention. So it may be a good idea to look at other garage door options you have.

Galvanized steel garage doors that are in the form of folding panels tend to be very secure, sturdy, and long-lasting. However, they will not provide nearly as much of an insulating factor as wooden garage doors.

Often double panels with polyurethane are used in the spaces between the folding panels to provide additional insulation. This is particularly important if your garage is attached to your house.

But if your house is well-insulated from the garage and you don't need to have moderate temperatures in your garage, you may do just fine with a single-panel galvanized steel garage door.

Composite garage doors are now being made that not only cost less than galvanized steel garage doors, but provide better durability than wooden garage doors. They are available in a wide variety fo designs to fit in with almost any house style. In some cases this composite will include would and resin.

Another material that is becoming common in garage doors is vinyl. Vinyl tends to be very easy to match to housing with vinyl siding. This can add a nice sense of consistency and style to your home. Vinyl garage doors are resistant to denting, giving you years of stylish design.
